The different persian rug designs

Persian rugs are the most sought after rugs in this planet and rightly so. They have a long history and are often associated with luxurious lifestyle because of their premium quality and the care it is needed to manufacture them. This makes it amongst one of the most expensive rugs in the world and not everyone can afford them. To a layman, every Persian rug would look the same, but the truth of the matter is that every rug is different and has a story of its own. In this article, I will tell you about the different Persian Rug Designs and their origin.

The Designs:

Let’s have a look at the different rug designs

Aubusson Rugs:

First on our list are the Aubusson rugs whose origin could be traced to the villages of Filleting in France. They are usually large and come with a luxurious pile.

Bokhara Rug:

Second on our list is the Bokhara rug that originated in Central Asia and somewhere in the remote areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan. They come in a variety of sizes, but the color remains same throughout. They have a solid background and consists of around 6-8 colors that keep on repeating.

Chobi Rug:

They have been traditionally produced in Pakistan. They come in a verity of sizes whereas the color combo of this rug earthly and golden tones. They have symmetrical border patterns.

Gabbeh Rug:

Next up on our list is the Gaasbbed Rug, which is native to the Southwestern region of Iran. It usually comes in large or medium size and includes 5 to 8 bright colors plus they comprise of stripes and geometric patterns which give it a modern and sophisticated look.

Kashan:

Originated in Pakistan and Iran with a variety of colors and sizes.

Kazak Rug:

Typically are woven in Afghanistan or Armenia. They come in a variety of sizes and different colors with red and ivory being the dominating color schemes. They have motifs of animals, flowers.

These are just some of the different Persian rug designs that are famous and sought after all over the world. There are more than 50 rug designs in Persian carpets and to discuss all of them I would need all of you to enroll in a semester-long course with me.
