The look inside: interior designing

Interior designing is all about creating living spaces out of available spaces. Designing and decorating are related faculties in theory but are radically different in their approach. Designing is concerned with the overall picture while giving equal attention to every single detail- artistic, abstract and scientifically practical solutions to the optimum utilization of space.

Spatial perception

The designer needs to have a good understanding of the space and the pros and cons involved, the purpose of usage and the import of the edifice.  Depending on the type of usage the layout of the house or structure has to be designed. This would involve the leeway and ease of mobility, aesthetic appeal and how it can be enhanced using natural light and electric lights, use of colors to make the ambience vibrant and cheerful. The designer will also have to consider the easy accessibility and functional comfort for the old, infirm and the differently abled.

It’s elementary

The designer has to take into account the various features of the different paraphernalia like the furniture, the curios and the trimmings to be incorporated.  The factors like light fixtures, wall paint or wall paper,  floor tiles, glass for the windows, paintings , art work etc and try to sync them with the elements- earth, fire, water, air and ether to create an atmosphere that could have a positive impact on inhabitants.

As is stated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, it is “practical, aesthetic and conducive to intended purposes, such as raising productivity, selling merchandise, or improving life style.” It does more than just improve the life style…….it takes the way of life to a higher level.
