Mold has a unique way of growing underneath the carpet without an individual noticing it. Before you can begin, you are required to carry out several things to prep your rug for the process of removing the mold:

  1. Ventilate

Keep all the windows and doors open and if available, switch on the fans. Getting air circulating in the room is important in discouraging continued growth of the mold and also reduces the musty smell.

  1. Reduce Humidity

Moisture is the causative agent for mold growth. Therefore, it will be wise of you if you use a dehumidifier to reduce humidity levels in the house.

  1. Keep the carpet dry

If you have a removable carpet, take it out in the sun to keep it dry. You can let it be dried for a few days just to be sure the drying process is effective

Baking Soda

If you have a light mold in your brown rug, you can simply utilize baking soda in the removal process.

This step requires you to have a brush, wet-dry vacuum, vacuum cleaner and of course baking soda.

STEPS:

  • Make sure the carpet is dry
  • Brush it and vacuum both the back and front correctly
  • Sprinkle sufficient soda ash on the carpet, concentrating on areas with the mold
  • Brush the soda ash, making sure it deeply gets into the carpet fibers
  • Let it settle for 24 to 48 hrs
  • After that, remove the soda ash and using a powerful vacuum cleaner, dry the particles of the mold

White Vinegar

This is the most effective method to kill the mold. It can eradicate up to 82% of all mold species

You will be needed to have white vinegar, dehumidifier, spray bottle, wet-dry vacuum and a vacuum cleaner.

STEPS:

  • Make sure the carpet is dry
  • Spray the vinegar and water solution that is in the spray bottle on the upper and lower side the carpet
  • Take note not to pour the vinegar solution, instead just spray
  • Leave the carpet to dry
