How can you install a basement carpet?

Before installing a basement carpet, you have to ensure that you get the required amount; therefore it is significant to measure the area floor area in your basement. It is also important to ensure that you are using the appropriate material to get the job done and if your basement area is made from concrete, you have to ensure that you select a carpet that will stand up to it and you can comfortably do this by selecting a carpet made from only synthetic products.

Deciding on the shade of the carpet

In most cases, basement carpets are usually installed to enhance the general look of the room, for instance carpets with darker shades are meant to add coziness to enlarged basement areas whereas lighter shade carpets aid in creation of more space in small basement areas.

Preparing the basement area

First, make sure that you completely empty the room, check the room and if there are any moisture problems, you have to ensure that they are addressed before carpeting the basement. It is also important to air the carpet for a couple of days because it helps get rid of any solvents.

You can ease installation of the basement carpet by either removing the door or sanding the bottom side to ensure that there is smooth door closure after installing the carpet. Remove any baseboards from the room before cleaning the concrete using the most appropriate cleaning solutions. If there are imperfections or cracks on the basement floor, ensure that you fill them and allow the corrected area to completely dry before proceeding to the next stage.

Laying the carpet

You can comfortably install your basement carpet if you have a carpet gripper; the carpet gripper has to be laid against the wall to make the installation work easier especially when tucking the edges of the carpet.

Cut the padding strips into equal lengths of the room and then lay them across the room in a side by side manner. Make sure that you keep the rows abutted and if there are any seams, you can cover them using duct tape. It is also important to ensure that the patterns on the carpet match with the hidden seams and you can join the pieces together using bare hands or activating them using the recommended adhesives.

Finish by fixing the edges against the walls and cut any excess carpet using a putty blade, then carefully install the baseboards and the door.
